The Georgia dental equipment market

The Atlanta metro has seen substantial DSO consolidation over the past decade, and that consolidation drives equipment transitions at scale. When a DSO acquires an existing practice, the incumbent equipment often needs to move quickly. Alpharetta, Marietta, and Roswell have all seen significant suburban practice formation over the same period, creating ongoing demand for used equipment among dentists opening or expanding on tight buildout budgets. Both Emory University and Augusta University (Medical College of Georgia) train dental students in the state, and their graduating classes represent an active and growing buyer pool.

Savannah has a different character. Its growing retiree population has supported a denser-than-average practice environment along the coast, and several long-established practices there are now transitioning. Augusta sits at the South Carolina border, which means equipment from Augusta-area practices can draw buyers from two states. Macon and Columbus anchor the middle and western parts of the state, with solid private practice communities and equipment that tends to be carefully maintained given lower turnover rates than in Atlanta.

The breadth of Georgia's dental market, from Atlanta's high-velocity DSO environment to Savannah's coastal solo practices to the rural counties of South Georgia, means there is genuinely varied equipment available and genuinely varied buyer demand. Auction captures that range better than any single-buyer transaction.

Inspection coverage in Georgia

Operatory Auctions has direct inspection coverage across the Atlanta metro, including Alpharetta, Marietta, and Roswell suburbs. Savannah, Augusta, and Macon are served through our regional technician partners, with scheduling windows of two to three weeks. Athens and Columbus are reached via scheduled visits with similar lead times. For sellers outside these markets, we coordinate site visits across Georgia and are transparent about scheduling timelines. No part of the state is outside our coverage.

How we serve Georgia sellers

We serve Georgia sellers statewide. From the Metro Atlanta area through Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, and Macon, we coordinate inspection visits and work with our network of Georgia-based dental service technicians. If you are selling out of a DSO-affiliated practice that was recently acquired or a solo practice that has been running for 25 years, we have handled both situations regularly.

Pickup and freight in Georgia

Atlanta's position as a major regional freight hub makes logistics practical for Georgia sellers. Equipment shipped from Atlanta can reach most Southeast states efficiently via I-75 and I-85. Savannah's location near the coast and the Port of Savannah provides an additional freight access point for larger lots. Augusta-area equipment draws buyers from both Georgia and South Carolina. We work with freight carriers who specialize in dental equipment and coordinate everything after payment clears.

Equipment servicing in Georgia

Atlanta has deep dental equipment service infrastructure, with multiple established companies servicing all major brands across the metro. Savannah is served by regional technicians who cover coastal Georgia, and some Savannah equipment is also serviced by technicians based in Hilton Head and Beaufort, South Carolina. Augusta frequently overlaps with Columbia, South Carolina service networks given its border location. Macon and Columbus have more limited local service options and rely more heavily on Atlanta-based technicians traveling to the practice.

Questions from Georgia sellers

I have a DSO practice in Atlanta that is being acquired. What happens to the equipment?

DSO acquisition events often produce equipment that the acquiring group does not need or does not want to integrate. When that happens, auction is typically the most efficient path. We handle multi-operatory lots regularly, and can work with DSO practice managers and transition coordinators to schedule inspections around the acquisition timeline. Contact us early in the process so we can plan the inspection and listing appropriately.

How long does an auction run and when will I get paid?

The standard auction is seven days. After the auction closes, the buyer has two business days to pay. Once payment clears, we wire your full sale price to your bank account within five business days. From inquiry to receipt of funds, most Georgia sellers are paid within five to seven weeks.

Do you cover Savannah and coastal Georgia?

Yes. Savannah and the coastal Georgia market are covered through our regional technician partners. Scheduling typically runs two to three weeks from inquiry. If you are in the Savannah area, submit an inquiry and we will follow up to schedule an inspection visit.
